Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) Ethernet uses the same FTTC technology from the customer to the exchange. From there, FTTC Ethernet uses the same back-haul technology and routes from the BT exchange to the ISP as EFM. FTTC Ethernet is a new, lower cost, alternative to EFM using FTTC technology over BT’s national Ethernet network. It blends both Ethernet and FTTC technology to offer symmetric speeds of up to 20Mb/s.
Trials suggest FTTC Ethernet is extremely reliable and delivery times are predictable. FTTC Ethernet is the new low-cost, uncontended access with fast lead times. Currently, 50 of the estimated 500 FTTC exchanges are enabled for FTTC Ethernet however BT wholesale plans to roll out 10 per week. Typical lead times of FTTC Ethernet are 25 working days where cabinets and exchanges are enabled.
